Virtual conference rooms for calls, based on Asterisk PBX opensource techologies for the oil and gas sector company.

Client:

Managing company in an Oil and Gas industry

Case review:

The Customer is a management company in the oil and gas sector, and manages shares in a large oil production project on one of the largest Kazakhstani fields. A large number of work groups and committees operate in the Customer's work process, which often hold discussions with their project partners. To minimize travel expenses, such discussions are held by video and telephone conferences.

The Customer uses an outdated digital PBX Panasonic KX-TDA200, which does not allow to organize telephone conferences in the format of virtual conference rooms.

Task:

Implement a solution to organize virtual conference rooms for telephone conferencing on the Customer side without making major changes to the current telephony solution, minimize the implementation cost of the solution.

Technologies:

  • Asterisk
  • Microsoft Hyper-V
  • Polycom
  • Linux

Results:

A solution based on PBX Asterisk was deployed as a virtual machine on Microsoft Hyper-V hypervisor. The telephone conferences functionality was implemented using Asterisk Conference-Bridge module. Additional telephone lines and external multichannel numbers were connected to the Customer. The capacity of the provider's telephone channel allows the Customer to connect up to 8 parties to telephone conferences.

The functionality of the solution allows to moderate the conference – to connect or disconnect participants, to turn on and off microphones, to record the conference. The solution also allows to dynamically create conference rooms, protect them with passwords, and set the start and end times for a telephone conference. When new participants connect, all parties and moderator are notified about the newly connected subscriber.
